Module 3 Week 3 Instructions

Welcome to module 3 of the Virtual Clinic.

Remember a minimum score of 75 is needed in each module to successfully complete this course.

FIRST, make sure you download the Download ubvc case studies 1.pdf

. Most of the intake forms and blood chemistry can be found on this document for the entire module.  Three case studies are in there:

  1. Michael Gastric Bypass
  2. Bill F. Thyroidectomy
  3. Melissa - PCOS

The rest of the case studies are complete in the case sections.

 

Week 3:

Review materials for Melissa (PCOS) and Female Breast Cancer Case Studies.

Definition of therapeutic plan to include:

Diet (1 day sample lay out) Supplementation (lay out in your 1 day diet outline) lifestyle changes (one paragraph) - summary expected term of therapeutic interventions

Provide knowledge of pathophysiology of this specific client’s condition(s)

 

Analyze lab work provided and identify potential missing items to be addressed/tested. Identifying order of importance of client’s health issues and clinical status. Demonstrate the order of your intervention regimen, for example if the person has diabetes and GI issues which one do you address first, or do you work with them at the same time?

 Comparison of allopathic versus nutrition therapies and when to refer

 

Detail expected outcomes and time-frames of nutritional interventions Detail to client on when to be monitored for potential medication changes Setting client expectations/potential impact of therapeutic plans

Short term/long term (no more than one paragraph on this)

 Identify potential drug interactions or drug nutrient/botanical interactions

Explain monitoring plan and criteria for client improvement (ie for future specific lab tests, Rx reduction, functional tests, potential referral for dr. monitoring of medication for changes, exercise, dietary and  behavioral changes)

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED EVERY SUNDAY BY 9PM EASTERN TIME. THE EXCEPTION IS THE LAST WEEK OF CLASS. END OF COURSE IS ON A FRIDAY, SO THE LAST ASSIGNMENT OF THE COURSE WILL BE DUE ON A FRIDAY. Refer to Canvas for exact due dates for each assignment

Late Assignment Policy: Assignments submitted after the 9:00 PM due date, but within 24 hours of the due date, will be subject to a 25% grade deduction. For each day thereafter, an additional 10% will be deducted. The grading policy for this Virtual Clinic course is different as it is fast paced and rigorous, much like clinical practice can be, and is designed to enable students and faculty to advance to the next module cleanly and be prepared for the next phase of their clinical training. This firm policy allows instructors to offer timely feedback to students which will allow them to build on their experience as they progress through each assignment.
